Explore the multimedia artwork of the post-Mao generation of Chinese artists. Twenty-seven artists working in Beijing, Shanghai, and Hangzhou present key works in video, photography, painting, and performance.

Interviews with the artists, as well as curator Barbara Pollack and a handful of important gallery owners, discuss the state of contemporary art in China. An accompanying timeline provides contextual references behind the artists’ work, highlighting the major political and economic events that have shaped and influenced Young Chinese Artists’ work.

This app accompanies the exhibition My Generation: Young Chinese Artists, that premiered at the the Tampa Museum of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg, Florida; and later travled to the Oklahoma City Museum of Art in 2014–2015. It offers a look at how China’s mega-development has impacted its youth culture and spawned new art trends.

The exhibition is an extended look at the new generation of artists emerging in mainland China since 2000, the year that China opened wide its doors to international artists and that Chinese artists began to command attention on the world’s stage.
